Project administration / IT management
My job: A combination of administration, IT management, and marketing
I could not really describe my role in only one job title - and I am loving it. The kind of variety that my job brings on a daily basis is rarely ever found in a large corporate company, so I consider myself very lucky. The project administration part of my role includes tasks such as calculating quotes, managing projects in our ERP system, issuing invoices, maybe purchasing specific hard- or software. In IT management, I am responsible for licensing issues, for keeping track of finances, for equipment issues, etc. I am also an SAP key user, meaning I support my colleagues with minor problems and questions concerning the system.
Adding some creativity to my work life is a nice side effect of the latest project I took on: Designing this website and keeping it up to date.
My everyday life: No day like any other day
I really do not ever have two days that are alike, and the variety of my tasks definitely affects the structure of my day: Some days, I might have to focus primarily on IT related problems and possible solutions, other days I could be spending hours invoicing and discussing project related stuff with the project managers. We currently have a large ERP project going on, which also takes up a lot of my time. Sometimes, everything happens at once and prioritization is key. I love that mixture and am grateful to have never felt any boredom ever since I started with thyssenkrupp Transrapid.
My challenge: Leaving the comfort zone
The variety that I love so much is also one of the biggest challenges I face: One would probably have to be an all-in-one accountant, lawyer, IT specialist, communications and marketing expert, and purchasing officer in order to reach perfection in every aspect of my job. As this is not who I am (surprise!), there's no chance I could just sit back and relax. Instead, I often reach certain limits of knowledge or experience, and use any opportunity I get to learn and to evolve.
engineering. tomorrow. together is our slogan. 'Together' means to me...
…a really nice work environment. I consider it a privilege to know every single one of my colleagues in person. This applies to actual working hours but also to the little moments in between - like during the moments of 'snaccident' that are rather common at our office.
