Andreas Diekmann
Head of project management
My job: From engineering to project management
Since 2021, I am the leader of our project management and administration team. We manage the projects that our engineers are working on from a commercial point of view. This includes tasks within the entire length of the value chain, such as initial customer contact, creating offers, processing and managing the customer orders internally, invoicing, and many more. We also cover purchasing requirements within our rather small company, and we represent the interface between the technical project work and the accounting and controlling side of the business.
I had already started with thyssenkrupp Transrapid back in 2001. Before taking on the role in project management, I was part of our very cross-functional development team, working on various exciting projects in the development of the Transrapid train and also supporting the initial commissioning of the commercial Transrapid line in Shanghai. Later on, my tasks shifted towards project work with customers that were mostly part of the thyssenkrupp Group of Companies.
My every day life: A nice mixture of everything
Apart from my management tasks, I am also still actively involved with supporting our Chinese Transrapid customers. This applies in particular to any matter evolving around maintenance and spare parts requirements, where it definitely helps that I have been part of the development team for so many years. I often participate in video calls with our Chinese partners and deal with several other project specific and administrational tasks. When time allows for it, I even try to support in other ongoing projects where help is needed.
This mixture of many different daily tasks and responsibilities makes my every day life and my job in general extremely attractive to me.
My challenge: Life-Work-Balance
I often find it quite challenging to find a good balance between private life and work life - fulfilling all project-related tasks at the right time and with the right quality, but also taking proper breaks to spend quality time with friends and family or simply doing the things I love. Therefore, I am really grateful for the opportunity to decide freely whether I want to work from home or how early or late I start my work day. Our company's modern rules on flexible working hours and mobile work make it a lot easier for me to create a good life-work-balance.
engineering. tomorrow. together is our slogan. "Together" means to me...
…on one hand - on a purely professional level - working in a great team where you can always rely on one another. On the other hand, I also enjoy spending time with my colleagues outside of work, as we all get along really well.
