Over more than 175 years, the long-established Kassel-based company
Henschel (later to become Thyssen Henschel), from which today's company
ThyssenKrupp Transrapid GmbH originated, has acquired a worldwide
reputation as a leading locomotive manufacturer in Europe and a key
player in the global market for locomotives. Apart from the construction
of conventional railbound vehicles, work and research into maglev
technology started in the early 1970s.
In 1974, in collaboration with the Braunschweig University of Technology
development began of what was then an alternative concept to the trend:
long-stator magnetic levitation technology. As early as 1979, this
technology was used on the world's first demonstration track at the
International Transport Exhibition held in Hamburg.
Since the completion of the test track in Emsland in 1984, the long-stator
design has proved suitable for everyday use and will also be put into
operation by our customers in Shanghai. |
